This program is a mix of Svan hospitality, an overview of the most notable places of mountain culture and, of course, mountain trekking in Georgia in the vicinity of the famous Caucasian beauties of the peaks: Ushba, Tetnuld, Gestola and Shkhara. The highlight of the program is the ascent to the pyramidal Mount Tetnuld.
Tetnuld (4869 m) (Georgian “white mountain”) is a peak in the spur of the Bezengi Wall, the Main Caucasus Range in the Upper Svaneti region, Georgia, 2 km south of the peak of Gestola and the border of the Russian Federation (Kabardino-Balkaria). This mountain is also called the “bride”. The very existence of this peak confirms the fact that nature is capable of creating regular geometric shapes. No matter which way you look at Tetnuld, from all sides the top is an almost regular pyramid with four sharp edges. From the Georgian side (Svaneti), there are two beautiful routes to Tetnuld.
Our route is the safest and easiest; the ascent goes along the southwestern ridge along route 2B of difficulty category. The ascent is technically more difficult than climbing Elbrus, Kazbek, Laila, but less risky than the program to Ushba or Shkhara. The program is an intermediate step between simple peaks and technically complex ones. The location of Tetnuld provides a unique chance to enjoy all the power and splendor of the famous peaks of the Bezengi Wall, opposite which the peak of Tetnuld is located.
The program is recommended for those who have previous climbing experience in the Elbrus or Kazbek mountains. We also recommend going through a Mountaineering School in Bulgaria, Chamonix, Chaukhi, in order to gain good experience in working with ropes and belaying on various terrain.
Notes:
— The climbing program begins and ends in Tbilisi, Georgia;
— The tour program is not final and may be adjusted depending on weather conditions, the condition of the participants and other circumstances.
— Climbing Mount Tetnuld is a very serious undertaking, and for people with minimal mountaineering training it is only possible when accompanied by an experienced guide. The optimal and safe option for passing the narrow ridge of Tetnuld is a team of 3 people (a guide and two clients). Climbing in a large group or in a group of more than 3 people is potentially dangerous to your health and life.

Climbing Tetnuldi (2B alp. 4869 m.) Climbing Tetnuldi (4869 m) along the South-Western ridge, 2B.
The nature of the ascent to Tetnuld along the classic route is snow and ice. One third of the ascent involves passing through the icefall and the closed Nageb glacier, the so-called “climbing out.” From the pillow you move along a closed glacier, passing cracks and then exiting to the Tetnulda ridge (in some places the width of the ridge is 30-50 cm.) Before reaching the ridge, there is often a large crack – a bergschrund. From the base camp at the pass to this place it takes about 2.5 – 3 hours.
We continue moving along a narrow ridge, steepness 20°-30°, with small rock outcrops in places. Narrow spots on the ridge are passed simultaneously or with alternating belays (along the ridge or below the ridge). At the top, the ridge becomes wider and slightly steeper. The average ascent time from the camp on the Nageb pass is 4-6 hours, the descent takes 2-3 hours.
It is optimal to start the ascent two hours before sunrise in order to descend from the ridge before the snow begins to melt; in the afternoon, the snow bridges and part of the trail on the ridge are very unreliable.
