Egypt β famous for its majestic pyramids and hot beaches, all-inclusive holidays. However, few people know about all the opportunities for outdoor activities that this country, in particular the Sinai Peninsula, offers. We are most interested in Dahab – a cute town 90 km from the city of Sharm El Sheikh.
Dahab is located on the shores of the Red Sea. The city is a mecca for diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and in the last couple of years the area has become interesting for rock climbers and mountaineers. There are a couple of dozen established climbing routes from 4 to 8a in the Dahab area, but the potential of the area is much greater. We are also interested in the Sant Catherine Mountains with its climbing routes. The average drop is 300-500 m, difficulty up to 5B (TD-TD+).
The nature of the relief in the Sinai mountains is monolithic granites and sandstones.
As part of the program, we will be training on the rocks near Dahab, as well as climbing in the San Catherine Mountains to the peaks of Safsaf and Batta.
Dahab and the mountains are completely different locations with their own flavor. The San Catherine Mountains are unlike anything else; here the local Bedouins live their measured lives. These places remember Moses and his tablets; next to our guest house there is the monastery of St. Catherine, which was built in the 6th century and you can walk there in your free time.
Rock training in Dahab can be combined with diving, kite and windsurfing training. You can just relax by the sea. The sea here is magnificent, even in winter the water temperature is +22 C. Therefore, you can come here all year round. Life in Dahab is very relaxed and the atmosphere is very positive. Most tourists come here for active recreation.
Weather in Dahab and when to go to the rocks
Optimal time to travel to Dahab: October – early December, February – early April. December β January is a wonderful time when there are few tourists and the rocks are pleasantly cool all day long.

Route of the program “Mountaineering and rock climbing in Dahab”:
Sharm β El-Sheikh β Dahab β Camel Canyon β Sinai Desert β Milekhes β San Catherine town β Safsafa β Batta β Dahab
Routeof the program “Mountaineering and rock climbing in Dahab” by days
day
Arrival in Sharm El Sheikh. Meet the group. Transfer to the city of Dahab, located on the shores of the Red Sea. We are staying at a hotel. We leave our things here. Let’s go to the Blue Lagoon. This is one of the most picturesque beaches in Egypt. The clear blue water creates ideal conditions for diving and kitesurfing. If you wish, you can simply soak up the sun. Return to the hotel for the night.
day
In the morning we go to Wadi Gunai Canyon. Here we will try our hand at mountaineering. There are several sectors and more than 30 routes from 4a to 7b. At the end of the day, take a jeep ride through a beautiful, vast canyon. Return to the hotel. Rest. Overnight at the hotel.
day
Today is a day similar to the previous one. Training, working with rope. At the end of the day we return to Dahab. Rest. Overnight at the hotel.
day
Today we are going early to the Sinai desert. We take jeeps whose drivers will be real Bedouins. In 2 hours from Dahab we will arrive in the desert. Here on Gur Milekhes, made of sandstone, we will go through an interesting multi-pitch. After the ascent, an interesting rappel descent awaits us back to the Bedouin driver. Through the sand dunes we will take a jeep to the majestic Dragon’s Eye Mountain. This grandiose place looks very picturesque, weβll walk along the dunes, watch the sunset and drive on to the city of St. Catherine. In the city we will stay in a guest house: shower, electricity and internet.
day
Today we leave all unnecessary things in the camp in the village and set off to conquer Mount Safsafa. There are more than a dozen interesting rock routes on the mountain from 2A to 5A cat. tr. (PD β TD). The peculiarity of the local rocks is that granites are very rough, so clothes and shoes are washed very quickly here. The routes here are quite long with 6-8 pitches. We will return to the guest house in the evening.

day
Holidays on the shores of the Red Sea. If the group still has some strength left, they can go to the mountains for a few hours to make the last ascent in this program. After returning, transfer to Sharm Al-Sheikh and flight home. We recommend staying in Dahab for an additional 1-2 days and simply enjoying breakfast overlooking the calm Red Sea, walking and enjoying the simple and leisurely life.
Note:
β Group composition: from 1 person;
β The tour program is not final and may be adjusted depending on weather conditions, the condition of the participants and other circumstances.
β Alternatively, you can buy an βall-inclusiveβ tour and stay on your own. Sometimes tickets + plane are cheaper than taking a separate charter. But this option has inconveniences due to the fact that usually chain hotels are somewhere on the outskirts of Dahab. It is much more interesting to live in the center of the old city, where all life happens.
Also, having a couple of extra days, you can take the Open Weather and Advance Diving course with a ukrainian-speaking instructor.
