Tour to Peru and Bolivia "Visiting the Incas" + Amazon jungle

In the morning, a short tour of the historical center of Lima: the presidential palace, the Plaza de Armas, the monastery of San Francisco with its catacombs, the Chorio fish market, where we will feed Pacific pelicans right from our hands. Lunch at a traditional fish restaurant on the ocean shore.
In the afternoon, a flight to Cusco, the cultural capital of Peru. The city of Cusco, once this city was the capital of the ancient Inca empire. Literally translated from the language of the Quechua Indians as “the navel of the earth”. For the Incas, the city had a special sacred meaning. UNESCO included Cusco in its entirety in the World Heritage List. This is one of the oldest and strangest cities in the world – archaeological excavations indicate that the first settlement on this site appeared about 3,000 years ago.
Cusco is located at an altitude of 3,600 m, so slight discomfort associated with the altitude is possible. Free time. Walks around the evening city, try local delicacies in a traditional Peruvian restaurant. Overnight at the hotel. Meals: breakfast.

Today is the start of a four-day trek to Machu Picchu. Access to it goes through the Sacred Valley of Urubamba with its incredible structures that remember civilizations that existed much earlier than the Incas. Due to its location, this valley is distinguished by its fertility and good climate. The first settlements were here more than 3000 years ago.
We will visit the ancient temple complex of Sacsayhuaman and see incredible structures made of giant granite slabs, the average weight of which is 20-30 tons. We will visit the salt terraces of Maras and at the end of the day the ruins of the city of Ollantambo, which in its beauty and scope is not inferior to Machu Picchu. Most of the attractions are located within a radius of 100-140 km from the city.

The beginning of our adventure in the jungle on the way to Machu Picchu. Continuing our way through the Sacred Valley, we will reach the Magala Pass (altitude 4325 m). We take bicycles, on which we will ride about 80 km. The landscapes will change from the highland zone to the jungle.
Lunch will be next to the authentic Inca ruins of Huamanmarca. This place will give a good idea of ​​​​the architectural taste of the Incas. Arrival in the Santa Maria village . Accommodation in a guest house. Rest, free time.

We continue our hike through the Sacred Valley. We will start our trek along the real Inca trail Kapaknan, which was almost lost until recently. The trail is difficult to access and very narrow in places. At some moments, you begin to feel like a real Inca in the virgin jungle. Along the way, we will see coca plantations, coffee beans, cocoa, and see the life of local residents. After lunch, we will have the opportunity to swim in the hot springs of Colcomayo. Arrival in Santa Teresa.

In the morning we will visit the Inca ruins near Lactapata, which are known to very few, as they were recently discovered by archaeologists. Today, in the distance, we will see the majestic fortresses of Machu Picchu: the sacred mountain of Huanapichu, Putukusi, as well as the snow-capped peaks of the Salkantay mountain range. In the afternoon we will arrive in Aguas Calientes, a city at the foot of Machu Picchu. Accommodation at the hotel, walks, the opportunity to visit the thermal springs.

Early breakfast, no later than 4:45. Departure from the hotel at 5:00. We take a special bus to the gates of the Machu Picchu reserve. The territory of the ancient city is quite large. Machu Picchu became famous in 1911 thanks to the British professor Hiram Bingham. There is no clear answer as to why people left the city. But it is perfectly preserved, despite the fact that for more than 400 years it was under the foliage of dense jungle. We will have about 3.5 hours to explore the city. Descent to Aguas Calientes on foot along the steps. Departure by train at 14:30 back to Cusco. Rest in the evening.

The existence of multi-colored mountains in Peru became known quite recently, since previously (according to local residents) there was snow on the top, which, under the influence of global warming, began to melt, and the mountains acquired the appearance they have now. The first tourists visited here only in 2016, but the place very quickly gained popularity among visitors to Peru – both foreigners and locals. We will also join this beauty. In the morning, departure again to the mountains, in the evening return to Cusco. Vinicuna is located 170 km from Cusco.

After breakfast, we go to the bus station. Transfer Puno-Cusco. We arrive in Puno, here by private transport we go to the pier on Lake Titicaca. Lake Titicaca is the second largest in South America and the first in terms of fresh water reserves, located at an altitude of over 3800 m. It is famous not only for being navigable, but also for the Uru people, who permanently live on the lake (on islands built from local reeds). People left the land more than 500 years ago and wandered on large boats, occasionally going ashore. And about 200 years ago they began to build floating villages. We sail to the floating villages of the Uros by motorboat.

In the morning, relax on the lake shore, take a photo session in national costumes of the Uru tribe. Short excursion to floating villages, arrival in Puno. After lunch, departure by bus to the capital of Bolivia, La Paz. Transfer to La Paz. Overnight at the hotel. Meals: breakfast.
For a short program on this day, a flight from Puno to Lima is possible. Day 11 flight home.

Today we will have a sightseeing tour of the center of La Paz. La Paz is translated from Spanish as Peace. Actually today we will have a lot of time to look at this unique “city of peace”, which is located at an altitude of 3600 meters on the hills, its highest part, the El Plat airport, is at an altitude of 4000 m above sea level. Therefore, many people go to Peru first before Bolivia for better acclimatization.
We will travel through the city by cable car through the entire city. We will visit the unique landscape park Moon Valley, the historical center of the city, and have lunch in one of the cozy restaurants. Free time after lunch. In the evening at 20:00 we take a bus to the city of Uyuni, the gateway to the Bolivian part of the Atacama Desert.

Early in the morning we arrive in the city of Uyuni. This is a city of miners and geologists, once there was a large transshipment point for iron ore and other minerals from Bolivia to Chile. We will have time for breakfast, get ready for a long trip and even take a shower.
From Uyuni we go by SUV on a three-day excursion through the Uyuni salt flat. The first point is the cemetery of steam locomotives, which were once used to transport ore from remote places in the desert. Then we will visit the salt villages and the Uyuni salt flat itself. The area of ​​the salt flat is more than 10,000 square kilometers, in winter during the rainy season it is covered with a thin film of water. We will be there just in the period after precipitation and a smaller part of this lake will be covered with water. Also on the way we will stop at the island of Incahuasi, which, according to legend, the Incas used as a refuge on the long journey through the mountains to the ocean. Overnight in a salt hotel.

Departure early in the morning to have time to see a lot. We will drive more than 200 km through the stone desert of Atacama, the average height of which is more than 4500 m. We will stop at several colored lakes, colonies of Chilean and Andean penguins are waiting for us (more than 1000 individuals live at the same time), we will also see wild vicunas (a type of llama). The finale of the day is Lake Colorado (from Spanish – Colored Lake) with its multi-colored bays. The color of the lake depends on the mineralization and the presence of special bacteria that live in the lake. Therefore, each lake in the desert has its own unique color. Accommodation in a high-mountain hostel, near Lake Colorado.

In the morning we visit the valley of geysers Sol de Mañana and the valley of Dali, we examine the lagoon Verde (from Spanish – green lake), which is located at the foot of the volcano Licancabur, the height of which is ~ 6000 m. The highlight and the end of the high-mountain part of the trip are the warm thermal springs. At the exit from the desert is the stone city “Lost Italy”. Return to Uyuni.
