Choose your route

Our guides and climbers offer various trips to the Caucasus for both explorers and history buffs, as well as experienced climbers looking for another dose of adrenaline. We will highlight just a few of the most popular routes:

  1. Kazbek — a potentially active volcano, the easternmost five-thousander and one of the highest peaks in the Greater Caucasus Range. From this peak you can see the entire axis of the main ridge, and the routes to it surprise with their pristine nature. By choosing such a hiking trip, you can slowly master the basic skills of mountaineering.
  2. Svaneti — a historical region of Georgia famous for its mountains and the special traditions of its inhabitants. The towers of Svaneti and the Korulda lakes, which you can visit with our guides, are described in verse. Within the framework of one such tour, you can visit several beautiful peaks, including Tetnuldi, Gestola and Shkhara.
  3. Ushba — The most famous mountain in Svaneti, distinguished by its pointed shape and difficulty of climbing, deserves special mention. It is not for nothing that extreme sports enthusiasts compare Ushba to the Alpine Matterhorn. Such a tour to the Caucasus is suitable for those who want to see beautiful and high waterfalls flowing from glaciers in person, as well as gain invaluable mountaineering experience.
  4. Borjomi-Kharagauli — the largest national park in Europe, which attracts tourists from all over the world. Here you can see not only a diverse relief, including high mountain peaks and dense forests, but also ancient temples and fortresses. The main points of this ascent are the peaks of Kvazinebi, Sametskhvario and Megruk.
  5. Ararat — Situated on the edge of the Armenian Highlands in Eastern Turkey, this peak is considered one of the most popular among all the mountains of the Lesser Caucasus. And it is not surprising – after all, this elevation is shrouded in a whole host of secrets and myths. What is only the biblical parable of Noah, who moored at the foot of Ararat. You can also see the picturesque rocky panoramas with your own eyes by choosing the appropriate hiking tour.

Hiking in the Caucasus Mountains for Beginners and Experienced Tourists

Climbing Kazbek, Tetnuldi or any other multi-thousander is often associated with difficult mountain passes, icy peaks and dangerous gorges. However, our team organizes hikes in the Caucasus for people with completely different experience and physical fitness. At the same time, each tour provides a scattering of fabulous panoramas and spectacular trails.

One of the most popular tours is a hike to the foot of Ushba and Mazersky waterfalls without backpacks. This trekking is suitable even for absolute beginners who want to get a lot of impressions from active recreation. For beginner climbers, we also recommend medium-difficulty hikes – for example, a hike to the Svan towers or a ski program in winter Svaneti.

ExtremeGuide has developed exciting programs for regulars of mountain ranges. If you have an experience of climbing, you can go with us on a winter hike to Kazbek from the south. This route is considered less difficult than from the north, but it still requires a lot of effort. Our task is to help you with preparation and acclimatization, as well as to provide high-quality support during the ascent and conquest of the summit.

Which season is best for a hike?

Perfect time for trekking in the Caucasus is, of course, summer and the first half of September. Especially if you decide to conquer a peak over 3,500 m. In summer, the weather is quite comfortable, and daytime temperatures allow you to comfortably make long transitions and climbs. Most often, precipitation accompanies this region in June-early July, less often – in August-September. However, it should be remembered that the Caucasus Mountains are located on the border of two climatic zones: moderate and subtropical. This is due to the rather changeable weather in these places.

It is not recommended to go hiking in the Caucasus from February to April, as avalanches may occur at this time. However, January is the best month for serious mountaineering. If you are an avid outdoor enthusiast and have the appropriate training, you can go with our team on a winter hike to Kazbek. For less experienced climbers, we have exciting winter routes of easy and medium difficulty.
