Top 5 Summits for beginners

We’ve compiled a list of the top 5 peaks for beginners, according to Extreme Guide clients, and the ones you most often ask us about before your first ascent. These mountains are the perfect introduction to the world’s highest peaks.

Ararat (5137 m)

Why Ararat? Firstly, it’s a legendary mountain, known even from biblical myths. Secondly, its moderate altitude (5,137 m) makes it accessible to beginners. Ararat doesn’t require any special mountaineering skills or extreme physical fitness. Overnight stays are held at several camps: one at 3,200 m and the other at 4,200 m. The program lasts seven days, and those in average physical condition usually successfully reach the summit.

After the ascent, there’s a pleasant bonus: a tour of the city of Van, the lake of the same name, and Akhtamar Island.

Kilimanjaro (5895 m)

Kilimanjaro, the roof of Africa and one of the most famous peaks in the world, is located in Tanzania. It’s one of the “7 Summits.” Like Ararat, it’s a trekking mountain without the need for complex techniques or specialized equipment, unlike Mont Blanc or Kazbek. The program lasts on average 7-8 days. During this time, you’ll traverse several climate zones, from jungle to high-altitude meadows.

The final stop on the route is Uhuru Peak (5,895 m), the highest point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Interestingly, there’s even a glacier there. After the climb, you’ll enjoy an incredible photo safari with local animals: giraffes, elephants, lions, and more. As a bonus, you can plan a trip to Zanzibar.

Kazbek (5054 m)

Kazbek is a volcano at 5,054 meters, which is precisely why acclimatization problems are rare. With proper preparation and following the guide’s recommendations, most of our clients reach the summit.

Weather also plays a significant role, but the program is structured so that the summit push occurs on days 5-6. Before that, there are acclimatization hikes and glacier training. All this against a backdrop of history, mountains, and authentic Georgian flavor.

Mont Blanc (4810 m)

Mont Blanc is the mountain where mountaineering began. It was in Chamonix, in the 18th century, that the first recorded mountaineering ascent in history took place. Every year, more than 20,000 people dream of reaching this peak. And sooner or later, every mountaineer should visit Mont Blanc.

Our program is unique in that it combines acclimatization with training: you’ll gain the basic mountaineering skills necessary for a safe ascent. From our own experience, we can say that most of our Mont Blanc climbers were beginners.

Orizaba (5636 m)

Orizba is already a Mexican landmark. And although the mountain appears formidable, its height and technical difficulty make it accessible to beginners. You’ll not only discover a new continent and culture, but also enjoy proper acclimatization: climbing the volcanoes La Malinche (4,500 m) and Iztaccihuatl (5,000 m) with views of the Puebla Valley, the Mesoamerica plateau, and the legendary Popocatepel.

The finale of the program is Peak Orizaba (5636 m), the highest point in Mexico.

Each of these peaks is a real and safe start to the big mountains. The only question is which one speaks to you best. Choose the mountain you’re interested in, book a tour, and our manager will contact you for more details. And remember: the mountains are closer than you think.
