Features of the route to Kazbek from the south, Georgia

The main draw of this Georgia hike is the opportunity to give your things to the horse and go light; also on the route at an altitude of 3000 and 3600 there are two shelters with a capacity of 50 people. At the beginning of summer (June, mid-summer), transporting things and equipment on horseback is only possible up to the Gergeti glacier. The possibility of casting depends on the presence of snow on the glacier.

Climbing Kazbek from the south is more comfortable, less difficult than from the North, and does not require permits – border passes. Participants are required to be in excellent health and good physical fitness. You will acquire the necessary skills for a successful climb during the acclimatization process.

Add Georgian national flavor to the vibrant nature of the mountains and the vibrant old Tbilisi, where you will have the opportunity to relax at the end of the program.

In the process of climbing Kazbek, you have the opportunity to meet climbers from all over the world. Choose your date and go on a trip with us!

Additional information

Physical training and mental preparation will help you optimally adapt to altitude.
It is advisable to have experience of previous hikes in the mountains, for example the Caucasus, Crimea, Carpathians.

The event takes place in the Georgian region; tourists from the former CIS do not need a visa. Visit with a foreign passport. It is mandatory to have a medical insurance policy for climbers. We will advise you on obtaining insurance.

There are many exchange offices in the country. It is optimal to take euros and dollars on a trip.

Gathering of participants in the capital of Georgia until 15.00. It is possible to organize a meeting in Stepantsminda (Kazbegi).

Travelers must be prepared for long treks with a heavy backpack, covering distances of about 10 km per day, and getting up early before the assault. It is necessary to train 2-3 times a week before the expedition. Running around the area and swimming are useful.

How to train before climbing Kazbek or Mont Blanc?

At the heights we live in tents for 2-3 people. In the village of Kazbegi we spend the night in a guest house with wi-fi. In the capital, the location is in a comfortable hostel center.

Important! In the first weeks of the summer season, transporting equipment on horseback is only possible up to the Gergeti glacier due to the large amount of snow.

During the hike, the food is hearty and simple (porridge/pasta in the morning, sandwiches with tea for lunch, soup for dinner and perhaps a salad or three), is included in the price of the tour.Participants cook together with a guide. When staying in cities, participants eat on their own in a cafe.

The guide has a general first aid kit and a telephone to contact rescuers. Tourists, if necessary, take personal individual medications.

In the lowlands, temperatures reach +30°C; in the highlands, frosts down to -25°C are possible. In summer, the temperature at the top is usually -5°…-10°, in the camp near the weather station +15°…+20° C, at night down to 0.

Only the guide has the right to end the tour prematurely due to unforeseen circumstances or poor health of the participants. The program can be life-threatening, so you must follow safety precautions.

Based on the results of the acclimatization climb to Ortsveri and training sessions on ice, the instructor may refuse to allow the climber to storm Kazbek or recommend taking a personal guide. This happens rarely, but sometimes a tourist is not physically ready and has problems with coordination. According to statistics for 2018, 10% of climbers were not ready for the assault. The safety of the group is always put first.

The expedition plan is not final and can be adjusted if necessary.
