Climbing Island Peak is an opportunity to combine trekking to Everest with climbing to 6000 m surrounded by incredible Himalayan peaks Lhotse, Nuptse, Ama Dablam. You will complete the trek route to the Everest base camp and after a short rest you will ascend to the base camp at an altitude of 5100 m. We will enjoy the Himalayan beauty, see the culture and life of the mountain Sherpas, and visit Buddhist monasteries. Of course, as part of acclimatization, in addition to the Everest BC, we will climb to the top of Kala Patar, 5600 m. From the top of which an incredible panorama of Everest opens up.
At the end of the program we will have sightseeing tours of Kathmandu: Bhudanath stupa, Pashupatinath, Patan and Durbrar
Island Peak is one of the most accessible 6000 peaks in the Everest region, and does not require special training, suitable for people with experience in climbing: Elbrus, Ararat, Mont Blanc or mountain trekking. During the trekking we will gradually gain altitude no more than 500 m per day, at altitudes of 4000 and 5000 m we will make stops for better acclimatization with radial exits. Porters will carry things.
To climb this mountain you do not need a separate expedition or a long stay in tent camps. Only on the night of the assault we will spend the night in the camp at 5100 m in order to gain another 1100 meters to the top. Part of the ascent follows a rocky path and then emerges onto destroyed rocks; above 5900, before reaching the glacier, we will put on crampons and harnesses to overcome the icefall, which became very difficult after the 2015 earthquake (in some places there are even ladders hanging here, like on Everest). The final ascent is a 150 m ice slope of 45 degrees, where fixed ropes hang (you just need to jumar along them). Descent along the ascent route.
The best time to climb in Nepal is from April to May and October to November. Winter is very cold and windy, and summer is the rainy season.
Key points of the climbing program:
— excursion to the oldest Buddhist stupa Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple);

Route of climbing Island Peak and trekking to Everest Base Camp by days
day
Meeting of the group in Kathmandu. We recommend arriving on morning or afternoon flights so that you have the opportunity to rest after a long flight. Checking into a hotel and meeting other tour participants. In the evening, a walk around Thamel, getting to know Kathmandu. Preparing equipment, buying what is missing or renting it. Night at the hotel.
day
We fly to Lukla on an early flight. We repack our bags and give them to the porters. We will go light, only water and a warm jacket. We will cross mountain paths to the village of Phakding. We will pass rhododendron forests and bamboo thickets. Rhododendrons bloom very beautifully in spring. Today we will spend the night in a lodge – a guest house. There is a cafe here and you can order food from the menu. Night in the lodge. Travel time is 3 hours, 10 km.
day
We are gaining altitude, today we have to gain about 600 meters. At first the trail goes along the canyon, and then we gradually gain altitude and come to the famous Hillary suspension bridge, the length of which is about 100 m. We cross the canyon on the bridge. In the afternoon we will arrive in the city of Namche Bazaar. This is the capital of the Sherpas who live in the Khumbu Valley. After rest, a walk through the local authentic shops, there is also a wide selection of equipment and clothing, you can buy something if you forgot. Night in the lodge. Travel time 6 hours, 15 km.
day
Today we will have a leisurely gathering after breakfast. First we will go to the upper village of Khumjung, where the scalp of a yeti is kept in the monastery and the memorial to E. Hillary (the first climber of Everest) is located. For the first time we will see Mount Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Nuptse, of course Everest and others. After visiting this traditional Sherpa village we will go down to the Khumbu River valley, here at an altitude of 3600 meters in the village of Porche Tanggu in the relict forest we will stop for the night. Night in the lodge. Travel time 6 hours, 15 km.
day
We are walking slowly, as the altitude is felt more and more each day. The landscapes today are incredible, the higher we go into the mountains, the brighter it becomes… Today is a short walking day before lunch. Our goal is the village of Pangboche, here is one of the oldest monasteries of the Khumbu Valley (founded in the 15th century), here is also the scalp and hand of the Yeti. The village is located at the foot of Mount Ama Dablam. According to legend, the monastery thoroughly tamed the Yeti and it helped him when he meditated for a long time in one of the caves in the village of Pangboche. In the evening we will go to the puja in the monastery. Travel time is 4 hours, 10 km.
day
Today is a logical day for rest and additional acclimatization before climbing Island Peak. We will go radially to the base camp of Mount Ama Dablam, meet the climbers of this magnificent mountain. Translated from Tibetan (Sherpa), Ama Dablam means – grandmother’s necklace, pendant. If you wish, you can just rest today and not go anywhere.
The entire walk will take us 5-6 hours. We spend the night in Pangboche.
day
From Tengboche we go to the village of Pangboche through a rhododendron forest, passing the oldest monastery in Khumbu. Then the thickets give way to dry rocky meadows. We arrive in Dingboche. The transition takes about 4 hours. It is warm here, well protected from the wind, there are many lodges with a beautiful view of Island Peak, Lhotse and Ama Dablam. We stop for the night in one of them.
Travel time 4 hours, 10 km.
day
We have to cross high mountain ranges and lifeless terraces. In about three hours we will reach Dugla and stop for tea. Then, having overcome several streams, we will reach the Phalung Karpo valley. Here you can admire the view of Ama Dablam, Kantega, Tawagi, Cholatse. Then the road rises to the Khumbu glacier.
Night at the lodge
Travel time 4 hours, 10 km.
day
Our trek to Everest Base Camp is coming to an end. Today we are moving to Gorakshep, the transition to the upper lodge will take 2.5-3 hours. After resting and having a little snack, we will climb Kalla-Patar. This is an important point before climbing Isle Peak. From there we will have an excellent panorama of Everest.
In the evening we will return to the lodge in Lobuche. Despite the fact that Lobuche is 200 meters lower than Gorak Shep, it is usually better to sleep here and the lodges are much warmer than in Gorak Shep. Therefore, we choose comfort :).
Track 8 kilometers, 6-8 hours.

The meeting time for the group at Kathmandu airport will be confirmed once we know your exact arrival time.
An important feature of trekking in Nepal is that you have the option of handing over most of the luggage you’ll need on the trek to a porter, making both you and the Nepali happy by helping them earn $15-20, although you can decline this service. The average porter’s backpack weighs 25 kg. We’ll be staying and eating in lodges.
In Kathmandu, we’ll be staying in a comfortable 4-star hotel, where we can store our city gear and unnecessary belongings.
Therefore, we take only the essentials for the trek: walking clothes. Keep in mind that it will be very warm down there for the first 2-3 days, so we’ll need basic attire: shorts, a T-shirt, a sunhat, and a scarf. It’s cooler up there, so we’ll need trekking pants and a windbreaker jacket. It’s best to leave your hairdryer, curling iron, and portable toaster at home.
Since we’ll be sleeping in lodges, we’ll need a sleeping bag rated for a comfortable temperature of 0 to -5°C. If you have a lighter sleeping bag, it’s not a problem, as you can always ask for a warmer blanket and use it as a layer, especially in Lobuche and Gorak Shep. For overnight stays and long evenings in the upper loggias, be sure to bring thermal underwear, a fleece jacket and pants, a warm jacket or down sweater, a hat and gloves, and goggles (basically, everything listed above). For the shower, bring separate flip-flops and a towel. A 25-35-liter backpack will hold a thermos or water, valuables, a jacket, warm clothing, and other necessary items for the day. You’ll carry it yourself.
A loggia is a guesthouse where 2-3 people share a room, with a shower and toilet on the floor and a dining room downstairs. The conditions are significantly worse than in a regular hotel, but still better than a tent. For a comfortable overnight stay, we recommend bringing a sleeping bag (as it can get quite chilly at night, and the blanket provided in the room isn’t particularly warm). In the upper villages, there may also be no electricity or a permanent shower (washing is only possible with a bucket of hot water). The rooms in the huts are very basic, with two or three beds.
Those climbing Island Peak should have a warmer sleeping bag (suitable for temperatures up to -5°C to -10°C), a good warm jacket with a hood, warm mittens, a windproof jacket and pants, and the rest of the gear listed, as we expect two nights in tents above 5,000 m. It’s freezing at night, and the wind is strong during the ascent.
Watch a more detailed video about lodges in Nepal.
We will eat in the lodges, where you can order food from the menu. The price of a plate of rice and salad is $7-8. The average bill for food per day is $20-25 – breakfast, lunch and dinner. Be prepared for the fact that the cuisine is based on rice and rice noodles, and oatmeal for breakfast. Bread is very expensive. Chocolate and cookies cost $3-4. In addition, it is better to forget about meat dishes for a while in the upper lodges. You can take with you some products that you will not have on the trek: sausage, canned goods, chocolate, dried fruit, a portable stove and heat up tea and sandwiches for yourself at rest stops. But keep in mind that cooking your own food in the lodges is not allowed; the Sherpa owners are against people eating outside their dining room (that’s how they structure their business); they charge a small fee for accommodation, and make their main profit from selling food. It’s always a good idea to bring a stove and a small pot to boil unlimited amounts of tea.
Local children love sweets and are happy to have their photos taken in exchange for candy or chocolate.
A meal in Kathmandu at a restaurant costs the same $25-$30 per day; in more traditional local establishments, it’s $15-$20.
Keep in mind that the total weight you can give to the porter is 10 kg per person. Your small backpack will weigh up to 5-7 kg.
Guides will have a first aid kit for emergency medical care, but personal adhesive bandages, headache tablets, cold and flu remedies, and painkillers are essential, plus vitamin C and B vitamins for better adaptation in the mountains.
3G service is available on the track only up to Namche Bazaar with a local SIM card. Internet access above this is a paid service at $3 per 100 MB.

This route takes place at altitudes above 4,000 m, where solar radiation is significantly stronger than on the plains. The mountain climate and thin air affect your body’s condition during the first 5-7 days of the trek. Improper acclimatization and rapid elevation gain can lead to altitude sickness. Therefore, we have developed a special acclimatization program and monitoring of each participant’s condition along the route. The trek is not technically challenging and follows a mountain road, but it does require good physical fitness and adherence to mountain safety regulations. All guide instructions along the route are mandatory!
Showers on the trek cost $3-5, and charging your device to a full battery costs $1-3. So, it’s worth factoring these costs into your budget.
Bottled water costs $1-3, but tap water from clean mountain streams is also an alternative.
We’ll walk leisurely, enjoying the views and taking photos. We typically leave our overnight camp at 9:00 AM and arrive at our destination around 3:00 PM – 4:00 PM. During this period, it gets dark around 6:00 PM – 6:30 PM.
This trek doesn’t require any special training and is within the capabilities of any average office worker. We recommend starting training at least two months before the trek: running, swimming, and cycling. Your total anaerobic load should be at least 1 hour 30 minutes (running at least 8-10 km on rough terrain) to ensure you won’t experience any health issues during the trek. For more information on training, watch our YouTube channel. If you have any chronic medical conditions, we recommend consulting a doctor.
— Visa (issued at the airport) – $30 per month (for 15 days it costs $25);
— Meals in Kathmandu and on the trek – recommended cost $350-400 (based on $25 per day);
— Phone charging and shower – $50-100;
— Tip for the porter – $30;
— Tip for the local Sherpa (for those trekking to Island Peak) – $50-100;
— Permit for visiting Island Peak – $125 (for those on the Everest + Island Peak trek);
— Emergency and medical insurance. If you haven’t yet, please contact us; we can arrange it for you; the approximate cost is $30;
— Airport tax during the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight – $10;
— independent travel within the country, expenses related to the cancellation of the Kathmandu-Lukla-Kathmandu flight.
So, without souvenirs, beer, and nightclubs in Kathmandu, the additional expenses are $450-500.
For those going to climb Island Peak, the additional costs are $650-700.
If you plan to hire an additional porter, their service will cost $15-20 per day.
Since most of you are transiting through the UAE and plan to spend more than six hours in the transit area, I recommend bringing a sleeping bag and a sleeping mat in your carry-on baggage to make the most of the time you’ll be surrounded by Asians. The transit area also has plenty of food options and a well-developed duty-free shopping area. Hotels at Sharjah and Dubai airports cost around 120 rubles per night.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, I recommend immediately moving ahead of the crowd and running to the visa machine (enter your passport information, present it, and take an automatic photo). You’ll receive a coupon and go to the ticket counter, which is located in the corner of the hall. Then, proceed to the visa collection counter with your payment coupon and electronic confirmation that you’ve completed the online visa application.
You can also fill out the application on paper and paste in a photo. The process is almost the same: first go to the ticket counter, then to the check-in counter.
Baggage claim downstairs:
Don’t worry if it doesn’t come out right away. It could take up to an hour. This is Kathmandu…
The table shows the basic cost for a group and may change depending on the number of people in the group. For the calculation of the cost of the tour for a smaller number of people and individual groups, see the «Price» block for more details.
